Josh Woods

Los Angeles Mixing Engineer

Josh Woods is a Los Angeles mixing engineer who helps artists make the feeling in a song impossible to miss.

He brings a musical ear, vocal sensitivity, and artist-first approach to records across cinematic hip-hop, singer-songwriter, modern pop, and R&B.

Josh does not impose a signature sound. He listens for the record's emotional center, then makes the decisions that let it come through with more clarity, depth, and impact.

The Work Behind the Work

Josh began recording and mixing songs for himself and his brother on a MacBook and Logic Pro. What started as curiosity became years of study, experimentation, and a growing obsession with what makes a record connect.

He earned a B.M. in Music Industry from James Madison University, where he managed the university recording studio and interned at Blue Sprocket Sound. After attending a Mix With the Masters seminar with Manny Marroquin in 2016, Josh moved to Los Angeles the following year to pursue mixing full time.

Within a month, he joined Sphere Studios in North Hollywood. By late 2018, he was working independently with artists around the world from his Los Angeles studio.

Approach

The best mix does not distract from the song. It makes the artist's intent easier to feel.

Josh builds modern, dynamic mixes with room for intimacy, movement, and character. Whether the track is sparse and vulnerable or dense and cinematic, the goal is the same: preserve what makes it personal, then make it undeniable.

“A trendy record doesn't last for generations. I'm interested in the timeless qualities that do.”

Artists including Becky G, Shawn Desman, Shanin Blake, and Lucidious have trusted Josh with records that matter deeply to them. That trust stays at the center of the process.
