Josh Woods is a Los Angeles-based mixing engineer who specializes in song-serving mixes that breathe life into an artist's vision. With nearly a decade of professional mixing experience and over twenty-five years as a vocalist, Josh brings a refined musical ear and emotional intelligence to every project—whether it's cinematic soundscapes, intimate singer-songwriter tracks, modern pop, or soulful R&B.
Josh's approach is simple: he doesn't reinvent the wheel. Instead, he extracts and elevates what's already there, creating mixes that feel authentic, transparent, and emotionally resonant. His background as a singer gives him a unique sensitivity to vocal performance and storytelling, allowing him to maximize impact without getting in the way of the artist's vision.
From Curiosity to Calling
Josh's mixing journey began with a MacBook Pro and Logic Pro Express, recording and mixing songs for himself and his brother. What started as curiosity quickly evolved into an obsession—spending countless hours studying tutorials, experimenting, and developing his craft.
Josh earned his B.M. in Music Industry from James Madison University (2011-2015), where he managed the university recording studio and interned at Blue Sprocket Sound. He spent several years building his craft in rural Virginia before attending a Mix With the Masters seminar with Manny Marroquin in 2016—an experience that convinced him to relocate to Los Angeles in 2017.
Within a month of arriving in LA, Josh joined Sphere Studios in North Hollywood. By late 2018, he had established himself as a full-time mixing and mastering engineer, working with artists worldwide from his Los Angeles studio.
Philosophy & Approach
Josh focuses on finding the emotional essence of each song. His mixes are modern, dynamic, and grounded in authenticity—designed to transform emotion into experience and invite listeners to feel every nuance of an artist's story. He believes the best mixes serve the song first, removing anything that stands between the artist and the listener.
